AVID

AVID is just one of the many programs offered at Richard R. Green High School of Teaching that help prepare students for success in high school and beyond. AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is offered as an elective course to 9th through 12th graders. The typical AVID student shows potential, has a strong work ethic, and personal motivation. To be considered, students don't need to have perfect exam scores or 90+ GPAs, they need to show a willingness to work and a desire to do their best. The AVID program has many components, some of the most important being organizational skills, note taking, study skills, collaboration, and exposure to college readiness activities. A typical day in AVID may include binder checks for note taking and organization, collaboration through activities like Socratic Seminars, or peer tutoring. When eligible, AVID students are also asked to take AP classes and Honors classes to help prepare for college. AVID is a lot of work, but it's also a lot of fun. One of the best parts of AVID is the family and community that develops, as students typically spend each year with the same group. We go on college visits, host guest speakers, and participate in team building activities that help reinforce the class community. Please reach out if you are interested. We'd love to speak with you more about this great option.
